Student privacy --------------- MIT's Student Information Policy provides that the names of students enrolled in a given class is part of the confidential student record. Forums, however, are by default open to all registered users (those with username@mit.edu email addresses), which makes student names associated with the class available to all within the MIT community. As soon as you know that all students have registered, and before beginning any postings to the forum, you should limit access only to authorized participants in the forum. If that is not practical, students should be informed that their full names (not Athena login names) will be made public through the forum, and given the option not to participate. (See especially section 7.2 of the Student Information Policy for a discussion of forums.) Instructions on how to control access to MIT Forums discussions are posted at: http://web.mit.edu/webcrossing/www/acadhost.html#setting_access For information and help ------------------------ User documentation for MIT Forums discussions can be accessed by clicking on the "need help?" link in the sidebar on the lefthand side of the Forums screens.
