II B: Predicate X + から(です)。 

1.I attended the seminar last week, so I'm not attending this week.

  1.先週ゼミに出たから、今週は出ません。

2.Today is a day-off, so I am staying home.

  2.今日はお休みだから、うちにいます。

3.I didn't go because it was terribly cold.

  3.すごくさむかったから、行きませんでした。

4.A:Why doesn't that person speak Japanese?
  B:It's because he is a second generation (of Japanese).

  4.A:あの人はどうして日本語を話さないんですか。
    B:二せいだからです。

5.A:As for today's quiz, you didn't do well, did you?  Why?
  B:It is that I didn't study kanji at all.

  5.A:今日のクイズは、できませんでしたねえ。どうしてですか。
    B:かんじをぜんぜんべんきょうしなかったんです。

6.A:Why did you become late?
  B:Because the train got delayed because of an accident.

  6.A:どうしておそくなったんですか。                         
    B:じこで電車がおくれたからです。


ＩＶ．Ｐｒｅｄｉｃａｔｅ(Direct-form)＋と思う  "I think that..."

1.I think that that person is Midori-san's elder brother.

  1.あの人は、みどりさんのお姉さんだと思います。

2.I think that her younger brother goes to a college in Osaka. (habitual)

  2.弟さんはおおさかの大学に行っていると思います。

3.I think that I met that man long time ago.

  3.ずっと前にあの人に会ったと思います。

4.I don't think that I lent you my dictionary.
  (lit. I think that I didn't lend you my dictionary.)

  4.じしょはかさなかったと思います。

5.A: I think that it's hot today, (but,) what do you think, Mr. Suzuki?
  B: I think so, too.  

  5.A:今日は、あついと思うけど、すずきさんは、どう思いますか。
    B:私もそう思います。

6.A: Do you think that today's test was easy?
  B: No, I don't think that it was easy.

  6.A:今日のテストはやさしかったと思いますか。
    B:いいえ、やさしくなかったと思います。

7.I think that I would like to become a teacher at a college.

  7.大学の先生になりたいと思います。

1.He is probably about 20 years old.   (direct)

 1.かれは、はたちぐらいだろう。

2.It's probably so, isn't it?  (direct)

 2.そうだろうねえ。

3.I think that it won't probably be cold tomorrow.

 3.あしたはさむくないだろうと思います。

4.I thought that it would probably become warmer today, (but...)

 4.今日は、あたたかくなるだろうと思ったけど…
