I.Honorific and Humble Verbals:

Review the following special honorific-polite and humble-polite verbals.

Plain Humble-polite(↓) Honorific-polite(↑)

II.Superlative:Comparing three or more items, Adj.

(1)A:AとBとCのうちで{どれ/だれ/どこ/いつ/どのN, etc.}が一番Adj.
  B:Aが一番Adj.

A:かんじとひらがなとかたかなのうちで、どれが一番むずかしいですか。
B:かたかなが一番むずかしいです。

Notes: 1.Instead of 〜のうちで, 〜の中で is also commonly used. Also,
〜のうちで and 〜の中で can follow a group-word, such as:

a.この三つのうちで、どれが一番安いですか。
b.かぞくの中で、兄が一番よくテレビを見ると思います。

2.Time-words, such as 一週間,一か月, 一年, etc. and place-words,
such as 日本,アメリカ,ボストン, etc. can be followed by just で.

a.ここは、一年でいつが一番さむいですか。
b.アメリカで、どのしゅう(states)が一番小さいですか。

3.どれ vs. 何
a.魚と肉と鷄の中で、どれが一番好きですか。
b.食べ物の中で、何が一番好きですか。

4.You may answer "every one of them is 〜" and "none of them is 〜"
by saying:どれも+Aff. and どれも+Neg.
れい A:このへんのレストランの中で、どこが一番おいしいでしょうかねえ。
B:そうですねえ。どこもおいしいと思いますが。
or そうですねえ。どこもおいしくないと思いますが。

II.Superlative:Comparing three or more items, Adv. + V

(2)A:〜のうちで{どれ/だれ/どこ, etc}{が/を/に/へ/で/と}一番Adv.+V
B:〜{が/を/に/へ/で/と}一番Adv.+V

A:スプーンとフォークとはしのうちで、どれを一番よく使いますか。
B:フォークを一番よく使います。

III.Verbal Gerund+おる (humble)

 Compare:   
明日は、四時までじむ所におります。↓
主人は、まだ会社に行っております。↓

Examine the following sentences. They are all neutral-polite(+), but
not humble-polite (↓).

1. 新しいじしょが出ておりますよ。
A new dictionary has come out.
2. この車は、お安くなっております。
This car has become cheap.
3. 800円でございます。
(It is) 800 yen.
4. こんなのは、たくさんございます。
For this kind of thing, there are many.

1.なるべく  "as X as possible; as much as possible"

1.なるべく早く来てください。
Please come as soon as possible.
2.日本では、なるべくたくさんおいしい料理が食べたいです。
I want to eat as much Japanese food as possible.

2.Xがすきだ "one is fond of X; one likes X"
Xがきらいだ "one dislikes X"

Note that すき and きらい are na-nominals. Also, remember that they
take が for a particle. E.g. "すきな食べもの" (favorite food).

1.A:日本料理の中で、何が一番お好きですか。
Among Japanese food, what do you like best?
B:私は、すしが一番好きですねえ。
I like sushi best.
2.お茶は好きだけど、コーヒーはきらいです。
I like tea but don't like coffee.
3. こんなえいがはもうすきじゃない。
I no longer like this type of movie.
4.子どもの時はやさいがきらいだったけど今はすきになった。
When I was a child, I disliked vegetables, but I have come to
like them now.
