GUIDELINES FOR HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS

There are a total of eight homework assignments due in this class, on the dates indicated on the schedule of class meetings and readings assignments. I will make every effort to post the assignments one week in advance of their due dates, and I will announce postings in class and on our class discussion e-mail list. Please follow these guidelines when completing the homework assignments:

    1. Each assignment will consist of 3-4 questions related to that week's readings. The questions will be broad and synthetic; they are intended to get you thinking about how the week's readings relate to each other, and to ongoing themes we will develop over the term. You should write a substantial response, of one or two significant paragraphs, to each question.
    2. Please submit your responses electronically to the class discussion list <21h.418-students> by 5 PM on the day they are due. That way your classmates and I will have a chance to consider your reactions in light of our own reading. These questions, and your responses, will serve as the basis of class discussions on the days they are due.
    3. I will print out hard copy of your responses, comment on them and assign them grades after class. I will then hand back the hard copy at the following class session. I advise you to keep track of your responses and my comments; they will serve as an invaluable study tool when it is time to prepare for the final exam.
