- Jean Clottes, a curator of the French Ministry of Culture and a specialist
in Paleolithic art, is dispatched to Vallon Pont d'Arc and verifies the
cave's authenticity.

- the French Ministry of Culture issues an official communiqué
and holds a press conference announcing the cave's discovery: French Culture
Minister Jacques Toubon introduces the lucky family who own (part of) the
land at the cave's entrance. Within days, the Ministry of Culture sets
up a web site with images of the cave, henceforth available all over the
world.
