Bobbie Whiteside, Handicrafts Unlimited

Bobbie Whiteside, who asked not to be photographed, is a Georgetown resident of 12 years who has devoted part of her retirement to helping her peers find a market for their hand-crafted goods. Handicrafts Unlimited is a non-profit store that stocks goods made by Georgetown residents aged 50 or older and which is staffed entirely by volunteers. Ms. Whiteside didn't start the store, but seems to have been around for quite a while. She said the new Sun City retirement village has made the crafts in her store "even better."

Bobbie's only complaint about the town is that she has gotten tired of the fifteen-minute drive to Georgetown's southern neighbor, Round Rock. "There are plenty of places to put stores" in Georgetown, she said, and getting bigger isn't really hurting the town. There was some trouble with the current mayor trying to slow development, but Ms. Whiteside is glad the recent recall election "took care of that."
