Everyone has their own reason for working here, but a love of plants is an obvious and common thread. Mark, a high school student and Maurene's nephew, started out as a community service volunteer and now works at the greenhouse on weekends and holidays. These days he'll sometimes stop by on a school-day afternoon eager to get the last of the seeds planted for a vegetable garden the crew members are growing for themselves. He proudly shows off the garlic growing tall in a tiny square of dirt next to the garage, and tells the story of how he bought the seeds on a trip to upstate New York from someone who warned him they wouldn't grow anywhere else.
[Mark checking the vegetables and herbs the greenhouse team is growing from seeds for their own enjoyment. They'll re-plant them in a garden outside soon.]
