Somewhere underneath his anger, his brain was telling him to cool off, to take it easy, to relax. But there was just too much adrenaline in him already. He could no longer sit down and calmly "talk about it," which, he was sure, was what she wanted.
She always wants to "talk about it." Jake's father claims it's genetic-- coded somewhere on the X chromosome. Jake didn't care at the moment. Suddenly, all he wanted was a breath of fresh air.
Get out! Yeah, go for a drive... to the river, yeah... would be nice... He moved towards the door, but stopped short. Looking at Dana he wondered if she'd be there when he returned. He loved her so very much! That is probably why she hurts him so very much. He needed her, but he was afraid to stay. Afraid of the shouting match, afraid to say something he didn't mean, something he would regret later.
But he was also afraid to go, afraid not to find her there when he returned. The stupid song jumped into his head: Should I stay or should I go?
