The First Lunar Independence Negotiations took place on from July 7, 2097 to August 15, 2097.
The three participants in the negotiations were the (U.N.), the (LTA) and the (FLM).
The FLM had been demanding independence negotiations since its founding, but only after they organized a strike of over 90% of noncritical lunar workers in June of 2097 did the U.N. and the LTA agree to come to the bargaining table. Clarke Station was chosen as a neutral meeting ground for the negotiations. No members of the media were allowed on Clarke Station during the negotiations, so few verified records from them exist.
All sides publicly expressed high hopes before entering the negotiations, but they collapsed suddenly the morning of August 15, 2097. After the negotiations were over, each side blamed the other two, but none of them produced credible documentation to back up their claim. A great deal of historical speculation has attempted to explain the collapse of the negotiations, but currently no historical consensus exists.
