Doorboards is a final project for the 21W.765J Interactive and Nonlinear Narrative course taught by Janet Murray.

In the story of Doorboards, four characters living in the East Campus Dorm of MIT interact and develop conflicts and friendships. The story takes place over the course of the Spring academic term.

A lot of effort has been put in making the detail of the graphics look plausible and fit within this semi-fictional world. For instance, many images in the story are actually montages of several disparate elements. Elements change consistently over time, writings on whiteboards are never entirely obliterated by new ones.

Look out for little details that may reveal more information about the characters. Newspapers, documents, posters and even trash bins may hold interesting and relevant pieces of the story. Still, a lot is revealed by simply reading the whiteboards scattered through the dormitory.

Note that the 'navigation bar' at the top of the screen will sometimes have elements in gray instead of color. This means that the corresponding lexia will not have any changes compared to that from the previous timestep. As long as the smallest thing changes in the lexia, the elements of the navigation bar will be in color.

A complete index of all the HTML pages can be found here. There are about 180 HTML pages in this whole project and tons of graphics. If you have a slow Internet connection or low memory, be warned: this site is extremely graphically intensive.

Any resemblance to persons living or dead is expected. After all, the characters are rather stereotypical and the separate events in this story will probably happen in many dormitories around the world. However, if the events in this story actually happened in a similar sequence, mail me, because I'm interested in knowing. If you have other comments about this story, feel free to mail me too.

I hope you will enjoy Doorboards!
