Saturday Morning, 11:00 AM, St. Ann's Swimming Pool

Leisl

Swimming helps me clear my head. I guess I don't seem like the athletic type, but I've been captain of the swim team for two years, and I helped start our diving team. In fact, right now I am our diving team.

I like the peace of the pool. Even when there are what seems like a hundred little kinds swarming all over the place, I feel like I can lose myself in the laps, one arm over the other. I hear long distance runners talk about the zone they reach, a sort of oblivious high. I feel that too, only I don't have to experience the dull pain of pounding my feet against asphalt. The pain of swimming in more subtle but all-encompassing.

I like Gil. I only met him yesterday. Oh well. That is as long as it takes sometimes. We hung out last night, after the rest left Battery Kimball, just talking and laughing. We started the slow process of learning who each other is. I am the master of understatement. I really really like him.
