Norman tells Anne that she's beautiful and too good for Tom. She begins telling Norman about how stupid Tom is, that he never thinks or has an opinion. He only says "Ummmmmmmmmmm..." and lets his mouth hang open like an idiot. Norman and Anne laugh, and Anne leaves to get some wine, passing Tom, who is just entering the room.
