Wrapped up in thoughts of his own, Ted hadn't been listening particularly closely, but he caught the changing cadence as Sally came to the end of her protracted narrative.
"What about you, what did you do last night?" She asked.
Ted had opened his mouth to answer but she had just remembered something else.
"Who was that at the door just now?" Sally asked.
"Meredith." Ted's throat was dry. He turned to the cupboard to get a glass of water.
"Oh really?" said Sally. She was still talking a little too quickly. "And you left her alone with ? They hate each other. I'll go say hi."
"Okay," Ted said to himself as Sally left the room.
