I flip on the headlights of my parents' Lexus as I start to back out of the driveway. The sky is dark purple at the beginning of this summer night. I fish an ambient CD out of the glove compartment and plug it into the stereo. I feel like I am in a jet cruising up into the sky. I am detached from the rest of the world from my cockpit.

I pull onto the street, the ethereal feeling staying with me. The pool of light from my headlights leads me up a hill. No other cars are on the road. I am in my own solitary world of midnight blue.

I crest the hill and take a few curves. I take my hands off the wheel and close my eyes for a second. The car is driving itself! I take my feet off the pedals, but the car continues to accelerate as it climbs another hill. Somehow I manage to stay calm.

Faster and faster, the car glides up the road. As I near the top of the hill, I can see the valley below. Little houses and yards, with streetlights dotting the roads. The car leaves the road and continues straight towards the valley and an approaching cliff's edge. However, the ride is continuously smooth, even off road.

The car flies over the cliff, and I am falling, falling to the earth.

I wake up. Light is coming through the shades. I hear some birds chirping. Time to get up.
