FILTERS

INTRODUCTION.

When two of our ideal subtractive filters are used in sequence two of the three major regions of the visible light spectrum are blocked from coming through. This leaves only light from one of the visible regions of the spectrum and our eyes will respond to that color. The three possibilities using two ideal subtractive filter are shown below.

The yellow filter removes the blue region of light and allows the red and green to pass through. The magenta filter lets both blue and red but no green light through. Only red passes through both filters.

Here the cyano filter blocks the red part of the spectrum and the yellow filter blocks the blue part of the spectrum. Thew only part of the spectrum remaining is the green light.

The cyano and magenta filters remove red and green light, respectively. Blue light makes it through the filters.
