Homework and Reading Assignments

Read all the things on the syllabus up through II.D (Defending and Modifying the Traditional Analysis). (Note - the web version of the syllabus says 2.4 rather than II.D.)

For 2/28: A) Evidentialism. read the text, pp. 39-43. Study questions:
1) The text states and replies to some objections to evidentialism. Are the replies any good? 2) Do you have any other objections to evidentialism?
B) The Infinite Regress Argument: Read pp. 43-4 of the text. Study question: do you understand what the argument here says?
C) Foundationalism: Read essays 17 and 18 in the anthology. Study questions:
1) In essay 17 Price talks about "the given" and "sense-data". In essay 18 Chisholm talks about "self-presenting states." Are there any important differences between these things?
2) Do you have any idea what they are talking about?
3) Are they right in thinking that certain sorts of facts are known in the special ways they describe?
