Elsie/Becca Notes
September 15, 1999

Ok, so there isn't that much going on this week and weekend, so I thought I woul d get you all some general information on different cool things. Oh, and I menti oned all the stuff I could find that was happening, although it isn't much. Ok, so here goes.... Take Two!!!

Ok, so the HUGE news of the week is that the FIRST FOOTBALL GAME of the season is this weekend. Why is that so cool. Well for one thing, we show school spirit and support the team, but way more importantly, it is the season premiere of the CHEERLEADERS!!!!!!!!! That means ELSIE IN A CHEERLEADING OUTFIT!!!!! It is going to be totally cool so EVERYONE should be there! It starts at 12 noon on Saturday at the field. Be there to support your school and more importantly Elsie!

Ok, so Dance Troup offers dance lessons. For $20 you can take as many lessons in as many things as you want. They have Ballet (beg and adv) Tap, Swing, Funk, Modern, Jazz, and Stunts. They meet at different times during the week. If you are interested we will email you all the different times, but most on Sat or Sunday. If you want more info, ask and we will find out for you. it sounds cool though.

Oh, random plug for the Tech. Yesterday, Tuesday, they had this cool article of random cool events, much like our Elsie/Becca notes. BUT, they had a bunch of useful stuff on Athena which was really cool. SOOOO, rather than repeating it all here, check it out, cause it was cool

Don't forget about Add/Drop forms and Recitation Changes. You have a while for Adding and Dropping, but most recitation changes have to be by the end of this week. It is just a formality, but get it taken care of....

If you want a job this year go by the Student Employment Office, room 5-119. It is easy to have jobs and still do work. And it is nice to have money coming in. Look around. Easy, well paying jobs are out there. Becca had a job where she addressed envelopes for $10 an hour her freshman year!!! VERY NICE!!! There are postings outside the Student Service Center in the corridor too. Just keep your options open.

Eating at MIT can suck fast. Just to let you all know about some random stuff. The food trucks of MIT are at two locations. One over by the pool and also in from of 77 Mass Ave. The one behind the pool has Gooseberrys, a VERY popular oriental food option. They have a bunch of REALLY CHEAP stuff ($2:50-$3.50) and REALLY GOOD plenty of veggie stuff and non-veggie. Long , fast lines though. It is good stuff. I am not sure about the others there. No one eats at them. We are all followers. We are very sad sheep here at MIT. Start a trend, be a leader, eat at the other ones. Tell me about them. Maybe they are good.... Oh the other one, in front of 77 Mass Ave is Middle Eastern food. Actually there is a new one this year too, which is asian and you get an egg roll with your dish which is yummy ;) Again, cheap and pretty good. Both are a nice switch from Lobdell and Walker. And the price is nice.

We weren't sure if you guys knew about SafeRide. It starts at 6PM and goes until 3AM (4AM on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday). It goes to ALL of the frats or frat areas of MIT and sororities. It is FREE and it is SAFE!!!! If you just want to randomly cross the river, take Saferide. IT is a VERY cool service. It comes every half hour and there are FOUR of them. Make sure you don't get on the wrong one. There is Boston West (the West of Boston) and Boston East. There is also Cambridge West and East which goes to MIT dorms. Those are nice if you live in NEXT or NEW or if you are lazy like me. If you are confused about where it is going , just ask the driver. They are all nice. (quick story, two summers ago Elsie used to wait outside Bexley, where she was living for the summer, every half hour and say hi to this one driver, Dominique. This is a very Elsie thing to do, but now he drives her anywhere she wants to go, including Ben and Jerry's. Very Elsie) And talk once you are in. a lot of the times they are packed and it is fun to have crazy conversations. It is cool!!!!

OOOOOOOHHHHHHH, this one is really cool. Ok, so EVERY phone at MIT has three way. SOOOOO, if you are talking to someone and you want to talk to someone else too, just click down the hanger-upper and it will make this weird beeepy noise like 3 times. Then just dial the other number. You can just talk to that person by yourself, or click again and the original person will be included. You can use it for hold as well, so if you want to put someone on hold just click it down and leave it on a dial tone. Then just click back when you want to talk again. VERY COOL!!!!!!!

The movies at LSC this week are the Mummy and Tarzan....hmmmm, not that exciting, but maybee you guys are psyched. So, the Mummy is on Friday at 7 and 10 and also on Sunday at 7. Tarzan is on Saturday at 4, 7 and 10 and on Sunday at 10. All of them are showing in 26-100.

Also this weekend is the last performances of Little Shop of Horrors by MTG. They are on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8PM in Little Kresge. We don't know how much it costs though... sorry :(

OK, finally, this one is a request from you all. Two years ago, our seminar ushered Blue Man Group. What this means is that some random weekend, we will show up early for the show and we usher people in as well as some other weird stuff and then we clean up afterwards. Why would we want to do this? Because you get to sit through the performance for FREE!!!! This is very cool. We had a lot of fun. We did it second semester though. BUT , we thought we might want to do it earlier this year. Or maybe go Apple Picking in some farm outside of Boston once fall gets here. We don't know. We just thought it would be cool to do some fun stuff non-seminar related stuff on our own. We know that we had fun doing it before. SOOOO, if you want to do something like that, let us know soon, and we will start looking up info and things like that. If you have any ideas, LET US KNOW!!! Again, we are ALWAYS HERE!!!! (Or Elsie is at Studio!!!!)
