There are weekly assignments, posted on the website most Wednesdays, with
various items due the following week. To receive credit for any part of
a weekly assignment you have to complete that week's checkoff interview.
- [due Monday night] on-line problems intended to be completed before the
design tasks. The on-line system will give you immediate feedback
about your answers; you can resubmit corrections to your
answers. No credit will be given for submissions after Monday.
- [due Wednesday night] design tasks to be submitted on-line according
to the instructions for each task. You can work on the designs
using your own computer or the Athena workstation cluster located
in 32-083. The course staff will be hold their office hours in
32-083 at various times throughout the week (schedule will be
posted).
- [due Wednesday night] answers to the lab questions, also submitted
on-line. Each question will be graded check/no-credit by the
course staff.
- [no later than Sunday] You'll need to do a short post-lab interview
with your TA in order to receive the credit
you've earned by completing the other parts of the assignment.
This interview takes place in 32-083 at a time you've scheduled with
your TA.
You must complete the interview for each lab as a pre-requisite for
passing the course. A missing interview will result in a failing
grade; incompletes will not be given for unfinished laboratory
work.
Late policy: Unless you have a note from Student Support
Services, there is a 50% penalty for late on-line check-in of design
tasks and/or an overall penalty of 50% for late completion of the
checkoff interview. So your score for each task is
task points = on-time points +
0.5*(late points - on-time points)
where you only get 50% credit for points earned after the deadline.
The overall score for a lab is
overall score = M*(sum of task points +
pset points + lab question points)
where M = 1 if your checkoff interview is completed on time, 0.5 otherwise.
Short extensions for up to two of the deadlines are
possible, but only if arranged for in advance -- talk to your TA.
Collaboration policy:
The assignments are intended to help you understand the material and
should be done individually. You're welcome to get help from other
students and the course staff but the work you hand in must be your
own. Copying another person's work or allowing your work to be
copied by others is a serious academic offence and will be treated as
such. We do spot-check your submissions for infractions of the
collaboration policy so please don't tempt fate by submitting
someone else's work as your own; it will save us all a lot of grief.
