There is evidence here of one of the major problems with URLs: because they include hostnames and filenames, they are fragile and tend to stop working with the passage of time. The URLs given in Glassman's paper are two years old and most of them no longer work. On this web page are links containing new URLs for several of the things he referred to. One of these is an updated link to his own paper, containing a URL different from the now-hanging one mentioned in the abstract. Don't expect the links on this page to still be useful two years from now, though. If you are interested in learning more about some of the current plans to alleviate this problem, you should read about URIs and URNs from the W3C page on addressing.
