Where to go from here: 6.033 Related Classes

We have barely touched the surface on many of the topics introduced in 6.033. There are several classes which focus on particular areas in much more depth. If you have enjoyed some of the topics we have covered this term, then you might enjoy taking these classes as well. Note: The Underground reviews are only visible to MIT students.

Undergraduate Classes

• 6.035 Computer Language Engineering. This class focuses on the structures of compilers. You also implement and optimize a compiler. Underground Review.
• 6.805J Ethics and the Law on the Electronic Frontier. The legal and ethical issues related to the growth of computer and communication technology. Underground Review.

Graduate Level Classes

• 6.829 Computer Networks. A core graduate subject including lectures and a significant term-project, aimed at understanding the state-of-the-art in network protocols, architectures, and applications. Fall term 2001. Limited enrollment.
• 6.824 Distributed Operating Systems Engineering. A core graduate subject with lectures, labs, and quizzes. Presents abstractions and implementation techniques that allow the design of distributed systems that can deal with real-world workload. Topics include kernel design, client/server architectures, networking protocols, storage systems, and security. Fall term 2001. Limited enrollment.
• 6.826 Principles of Computer Systems. Learn about developing specifications for performance, fault-tolerance and correctness for computer systems. Underground Review.
• 6.823 Computer System Architecture. This course covers the basic techniques used in modern architecture. It covers the modern microprocessor and parallel system design. Underground Review.
• 6.821 Programming Languages. The theory of programming language semantics. Underground Review.
• 6.852 Distributed Algorithms. Learn about distributed algorithms and techniques for verifying and analyzing them. Underground Review.
• 6.263 Data Communication Networks. Learn how to analyze and design data communication networks. Underground Review.
• 6.857 Network and Computer Security. If you are interested in security you might also enjoy the LCS Applied Security Reading Group.
• 6.875J Cryptography and Cryptanalysis. Basic topics of cryptography. Underground Review.
• 6.876J Advanced Topics in Cryptography. Covers recent literature in cryptography. Underground Review.
• STS.185 The Structure of Engineering Revolutions. This is a brand new subject which will study how engineering projects are developed. Underground Review.

One-time seminars

• There are often special one-time seminars related to computer systems offered under recylable subject numbers such as 6.96x or 6.9yy. Watch the bulletin boards near the beginning of each term for announcements.
