Read the paper Manageability, Availability and Performance in Porcupine: A Highly Scalable Internet Mail Service by Yasushi Saito, Brian Bershad and Hank Levy.

As you are reading the paper, think about the following question:

How do Porcupine nodes recover the 256-entry user map after a crash? What configurations might require a user map that contains more than 256 entries? Do you think the user map should still be soft state in those configurations?
