Quiz 2 will, not surprisingly, look a little bit different this year than in previous years. Below are some details about the quiz, with notes about how these plans differ from Quiz 1.
- The quiz will be "open book." That means you can use any printed or written materials that you think might be useful. You can also use a laptop or tablet to view, e.g., PDF versions of the papers and notes. Calculators are allowed, though typically not necessary. All of these things are always true about 6.033 quizzes.
- You may not use the Internet for help with the quiz. I.e., you cannot Google for the answers. You may also not collaborate with any of your peers. These things are also always true about 6.033 quizzes.
- You will take the quiz online, using Gradescope. This will work much like it did for Quiz 1, but read the next bullet point.
- We will write a quiz that can be completed in under two hours (in fact, this quiz will probably be shorter than Quiz 1 and any other year's Quiz 2, because we cut half of the recitation papers and part of the security section). It will be available for 24 hours on Gradescope, starting at 1:30pm EDT on 5/18, and you will have a three-hour time limit once you begin it. Our intent is for that timeframe to account for all of the different timezones you're in, and the fact that you have different levels of Internet access. However, note that this is not the same as how we administered Quiz 1. Quiz 2 has a time limit; Quiz 1 does not.
- If you have questions during the exam, we will allow you to post private questions on Piazza. The course staff will be available during much of the quiz to answer these questions. If there is no staff member online when you ask your question, you will be able to save your quiz progress and come back to it once the staff is back online.
- If you are concerned about your ability to access Gradescope for a three-hour period, contact Katrina right away (lacurts@mit.edu). Unlike Quiz 1, we will not be able to release a PDF to all of the class at the start of the exam (that would turn this into a 24-hour final, which is not allowed per MIT's guidelines). We will figure out a way for you to take the quiz regardless, but you must get in touch with Katrina now, not the day of the quiz.
Quiz 2 will cover the material starting from Lecture 15/Recitation 14, up to and including Lecture 24/Recitation 19 (that means it covers all of the material from 3/30 - 5/8 on the calendar). Because the style of the quiz will not change from previous years, these practice exams should still be helpful. Note that there is some content on these exams that we did not cover this semester; you will not be tested on that content (for instance, we didn't cover Tor or Bitcoin this year).
