Features of the FPGA Labkit
FPGA
- Xilinx XC2V6000 Virtex 2 series FPGA with 6 million effective gates (76,032 logic cells)
- SystemACE controller allows FPGA to be configured from a compact flash card. Up to 8 configurations can be stored on one compact flash card at the same time. A switch selects which configuration is loaded on reset.
- JTAG port for configuring the FPGA directly, as well as for probing internal signals using ChipScope.
- 128 I/O pins are brought out to headers for general purpose use. Level-conversion chips make these signals 5V-tolerant.
Clocking
- On-board 27MHz oscillator (used by video encoder and decoder chips)
- Sockets for two full- or half-can 3.3V oscillators
- FPGA contains 12 digital clock managers which can synthesize other clock frequencies or de-skew off-chip clocks
Memory
- 2,592kbits of block RAM and up to 1,056kbits of distributed RAM built into the FPGA
- Two 512kx36 Cypress ZBT synchronous SRAMs, accessible at up to 167MHz
- 128Mbit Intel StrataFlash ROM for nonvaolatile storage (such as static video data, or audio waveforms)
Audio
- National emiconductor LM4550 18-bit AC'97-compatible codec
- Stereo line-level inputs and outputs
- Amplified headphone output, with digital volume control over the AC'97 link
- Mono microphone input
Video
- Analog Devices ADV7185 10-bit video decoder
- Analog Decoder ADV7194 10-bit video encodert
- Analog Decoder ADV7125 8-bit video DAC
- Composite and s-video inputs and outputs
- 24-bit VGA output at up to at least 1024x768 (resolution determined by clock rate from FPGA)
Other I/O
- Two PS/2 ports
- RS-232 port and level-converter (UART must be synthesized in FPGA)
- 16-character alphanumeric LED display
- 8 individual LEDs
- 8 slide switches
- 9 pushbuttons, 4 of which are arranged as an up/down/left/right keypad
- Large breadboard area
- +3.3V, +5V, +12V, and -12V power supplies available for breadboarded circuitry
Daughtercard Expansion Port
- Provides 44 high-speed, bidirectional I/O lines
- +3.3V, +5V, +12V, and -12V available
- Possible future expansion card options include tranceivers for wireless projects, and motor drivers for robotic projects
