Students:

I will be returning the quiz papers via the mail folders this afternoon. Solutions should be appearing on the web page today.

In general, the papers were pretty good. No one in the class is in serious trouble. Your course grade depends on not only the first half of the term but also what happens in the second half with Professor Welsch. However, if I were forced to give letter grades now based solely on the first quiz, I would assign A's to all those who scored at least 75 and B's to the others.

Of course, someone who got 73 on this quiz and earned an A in Professor Welsch's part of the course would very likely get a final grade of A. (Changes in the opposite direction are also possible.) So please view these scores as partial information.

I'd be happy to speak with any student who fears that his/her paper was graded inappropriately. There's no great rush, but please e-mail me that you seek an appointment.

When I learn your schedules for Friday and next Monday, I will propose a time for an optional recitation about regression, at which time the Chapter 8 problems you completed will be welcomed. Hope to see you soon.
