6.291 Seminar in Systems, Communications, and Control Research

Spring, 2008

The seminar course for this semester will focus on recent research frontiers in optical networks. The emphasis will be on the exploration of radically new architectures that make substantial differences in performance and cost. Topics include centralized and distributed control planes for IP and optical layers, fast setup transport mechanisms, routing and wavelength assignment algorithms, Transport Layer Protocols, cost efficient network architectures, and security and identification of disruptive technologies to be developed. Students will attend some of the more advanced lectures of 6.442 Optical Communications and Networks and the course will be graded on a presentation of an advanced topic on network architecture.
