Course Description

Introduction to design, analysis, and fundamental limits of wireless transmission systems. Wireless channel and system models; fading and diversity; resource management and power control; multiple-antenna and MIMO systems; space-time codes and decoding algorithms; multiple-access techniques and multiuser detection; broadcast codes and precoding; cellular and ad-hoc network topologies; OFDM and ultrawideband systems; architectural issues.

Prerequisite: 6.450 or equivalent, or permission of instructor.

Textbook: Tse and Viswanath, Fundamentals of Wireless Communication .

Note:This book is one of the best technical books on the subject, and a hard copy is worth to have. But it is fine to go through this course with only the on-line version, for the assigned readings and problem sets. However printing out the whole book from an Athena printer is considered a waste of resource and strongly discouraged.
