Proposal for 6A26 Final Project
I believe that the Internet should be used as a tool, not merely an endless source of information. For my final project I plan to develop an on-line tool (i.e. one that you don't have to download and install...); a site that is meant to be used and not browsed. I propose to create an on-line metronome.
As a musician I often run into a problem when the battery runs out on my metronome. I am sure that others experience this too. As a solution to this dilemma I am going to make a World Wide Web site that is home to a metronome. Access the site, adjust the settings, and the tempo will be played.
If time permits (which it probably won't) I want to expand my site to include an on line rhythm generator. The user will can put together a sequence of beats (i.e. whole, half, quarter, eighth etc...), press the "Play" button, have the rhythm played for them. It would be nice to allow the user to pick a tempo, but I will only begin by having a set tempo of 60 bpm (which will coincide nicely if I use try { Thread.sleep (number); } statements in a Java applet.
