6A26 Proposal
Field Hockey Video on the Web
Project Goal: to extend the MIT community to have access on the web to live video or partial recordings of current events on campus, particularly sports.
The initial step is to set up a digital video camera to use for filming games with field hockey as a test case. This way alumni, parents, and others can have a better sense of what is going on besides a score.
This can later be extended to other sports and activities around campus. It could also be useful for living groups for rush purposes.
Problems
- better quality video?
- refresh rate/live/recorded previously??
- plug ins?
- connections/protection
- support?
Short Term Goals
The present goal so that this project is quantifiable, is to put some
pre-recorded video of a field hockey game. The video clips will be in 10-20
second clips so as not to make them too long for the proposed audience - the
parents and other people not on the MIT campus with slower internet connections.
Progress
So far:
- I had someone tape the field hockey game (Oct. 30 vs. Clark)
- I've watched the entire tape and chosen short clips of good plays, etc.
- I've started to capture portions of the video, and then compress, edit,
and save them. I believe I've saved two because the one I tried after that
had a problem with the actual tape and made it jump.
- I've saved about six movie clips, and I am ready to start figuring out how to transfer
them to the web page template I've created.
Currently
- I will be working again on the project right before the seminar meeting on
Monday Nov. 17, and trying to edit and save more video.
- I have also started to create a site for the video
on the 6a26 locker.
