CYBERTUTOR for 8.01 Spring 2002

Login Instructions

Step 1 Go to http://cybertutor.mit.edu.
The CyberTutor Login page should appear.
Step 2 Click the "New User" button.
A new user page will appear.
Step 3

Fill in all of the fields on this page to register yourself to use CyberTutor.

  • In the "Academic Class Code" field, enter "MIT801S02" (case sensitive).
  • Leave the "Access Code" field blank.
  • WRITE DOWN AND REMEMBER your user name and case-sensitive password.

If you forget your username or password, use the links on the CyberTutor login page to have them sent to you via e-mail. If CyberTutor refuses to log you in after you check your case-sensitive name and password, contact David Kokorowski (davidk@mit.edu, 617-253-4167).

The remaining information will be used solely for studying correlations so that we can, in later versions, make a skill profile for you which will help decide which new problem should help you the most.

Step 4

Press the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page.
A course welcome page will appear.

Step 5 Click the "Assignment List" button on the left hand side of the screen. Select the first available assignment to begin using CyberTutor. Do the instructional problems first.

Other Information

Browser Requirements
CyberTutor requires Javascript to be enabled on your browser. Certain CyberTutor featuers and problem types also require Java. We suggest that you set your monitor resolution to at least 800x600 and maximize the browser window when using CyberTutor.

Electronic Tutorial Sessions
These are scheduled for those who need help getting started with CyberTutor. These will be held from 4PM to 7PM on Tuesday, Feb. 5 and on Thursday Feb 7 in room 14-0637 (basement of Hayden Library). You should go to the first tutorial if you have not logged in successfully by Tuesday afternoon.

HotEquation Applet
This applet displays a formatted version of any expressions that you enter as a solution to a CyberTutor problem and is very helpful for checking whether you've entered the expression correctly. The HotEquation applet should automatically appear at the very top of the CyberTutor screen. Due to browser limitations this applet is NOT available for Macintosh users running Internet Explorer. If you are using a Macintosh, we suggest working with CyberTutor under Netscape 4.7.

On-line TA
Brian Fore (bfore@mit.edu) will be on-line from 8PM to 10PM on Sunday and Monday nights before CyberTutor assignments are due. The best way to contact him is to click the "COMMENT" button on the left hand side of the CyberTutor screen. The online TA will respond by e-mail.

E-mail Help
If you have problems with the CyberTutor platform (as distinguished from the physics) you should first send a comment, indicating it's a bug when submitting. If you can't log in, or have some other technical problem, contact David Kokorowski (davidk@mit.edu, 617-253-4167).
