Welcome to MIT's introductory
Newtonian mechanics course, 8.01 for Spring 2002.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The registrar
has assigned you to tutorial recitations for Thursday. These
Thursday recitations are cancelled. Instead we will have an
open tutorial from 3 to 7 on Thursday (room to be announced), and
individual tutors for students with specific deficiencies (you will
be contacted individually about this).
The Course
Information page reveals that this is not a standard course.
There is only one lecture per week (on Friday) and that is largely
devoted to testing. You should review your student
responsibilities to familiarize yourself with what is expected
of you. In addition, you should review the course
policies concerning missed tests, late homework, etc. This
course covers the same material as 8.01 usually does, as can be
seen from the syllabus.
A majority of traditional
written homework has been replaced by electronic tutorial homework.
You should use the login instructions to get going on CyberTutor
immediately - there is an assignment due on Tuesday. Starting in
the second week, there will also be written homework. A novel feature
here is that you can do it with a partner from your recitation section
- see joint homework.
