Course Overview: Exams

Exams

Three 2-hour exams will be given in the evenings from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm on the following dates:

Exam 1 Thursday evening, Sept. 18
Exam 2 Thursday evening, Oct. 23
Exam 3 Tuesday evening, Nov. 25

Final Exam TBA

The next day class immediately following the exams will be canceled. There will be a final exam in the course. The final exam will be a comprehensive exam given during finals week, and will cover all of the subject material.

Excuses from tests

Exam 3 is scheduled on Tuesday Nov 26, the week of the Thanksgiving holiday. Do not buy a plane ticket that will force you to miss the exam. Previously purchased plane tickets will not be an acceptable excuse to miss Exam 3.

In the case of a compelling and verifiable academic conflict, a conflict exam for the evening exam will be given the following day. Other than this, there will be no make-up exams. Conflict requests will be denied for job interviews, conferences, or non-academic conflicts. If there is some question, please contact your course administrator (padour@mit.edu) well in advance of the exam. A grade of zero will be assigned for unexcused missed exams. If you are sick you need to get confirmation from Student Support Services, either beforehand or afterwards. If you are excused from an exam, the remaining exams will be used to determine the overall average exam grade. Excuses from exams must be requested in advance of the exam (if you are physically able to do so) from Dr. Peter Dourmashkin (padour@mit.edu). Acceptable excuses will be rare and will be granted only for verifiable and significant reasons.
