TEST 3

Test 3 will be given during the lecture hours on Weds. 19 April. The locations, times and arrangements will be as before; see the Organization Notes.

The test will be based on some of the following topics. Subject matter from the earlier portion of the course is needed for the solutions.

Faraday's Law

Motional EMF

Inductors, Inductance, and Mutual Inductance

LR circuit with battery (***added 4/13***)

Magnetic energy density

Gauss's law for magnetism

Magnetic materials and Magnetization Vector (at most a few credit points)

Freely oscillating LC and LRC Circuits, and resonance

LRC Circuit driven by sunusoidal emf

Topics NOT covered: power in AC circuits & the transformer (secs. 39-4 and 39-5 in the text)

 

As usual, an equation sheet will be provided. It will be passed out in lecture Weds. 12 April, will be in the handout room 4-339B beginning Weds., and may be downloaded as a postscript file or pdf file.

We note that Drop Date will be the day after this test. Unfortunately, neither the papers nor the grades will be available before the drop deadline. However, the solutions will be available after 2 PM Wednesday afternoon in Room 4-339B so you can estimate how well you did.
