The ESG Calendar

Fall 2007 Courses in ESG

In the spirit of ESG's trying to be gently different, the subjects on this page are listed alphabetically by course name, not number.

For those who would want to imagine the future by considering the past, we also keep online the Previous Subject Listings.

The subject numbers are linked to the subject descriptions, either the MIT Subject Listings or ESG's own descriptions, when appropriate. For more information, contact either the staff members or, when listed, the instructors for a given subject. A complete list of Staff and Teaching Assistants is online.

Physics

  • 8.01X Physics I with Experiments (Ayer)
  • 8.01 (Murthy)
  • 8.01s Physics I with Sports Applications [NEW!] (Custer)
    Description:
ESG 8.01 Sports is a version of MIT's 8.01 taught under the auspices of ESG. ESG 8.01 Sports labs take place in MIT's athletics facilities where the student is the experimenter and the student's body the object under test so the physical principals are directly experienced. The student both "feels the physics" to develop physics intuition and learns the physics behind the sports to improve skill. The problems sets & exams are the same for both subjects with the exception of some questions that are lab specific in lieu of online assignments (Mastering Physics) in MIT's 8.01. The weekly schedule of ESG 8.01 Sports students includes 2 hours of physics class per week, 2 hours of physical education (PE) instruction, 2 hours of PE lab, slightly less than 2 hours of problem solving (an extension of class) and optional weekly office hours with one of the undergraduate TAs. In addition to 8.01 credit, students receive 4 PE credits for their participation in the sports labs.
  • 8.012 (Dourmashkin)
  • 8.02 or 8.022 (Dourmashkin)

Undergraduate Seminars

Due to the large number of seminars each spring, seminar information lives on its own ESG Seminars page.
