The Edgerton Center Student Shop provides training in the use of
machine tools, access to them and guidance in project planning, to any
current MIT student. The monthly training program is conducted in the
evenings and consists of twelve hours of hands on instruction, showing the
basics of milling and lathe work by making two small parts. Students with
adequate experience and a familiarity with machining may gain access by
taking a safety lecture which is offered every other week. For more information regarding our training classes, send an email to mdbelang@mit.edu. Shop equipment consists of 3 Bridgeport millers, 2 EZ-trak CNC mills,
HAAS CNC lathe, 4 metal lathes, bandsaw, drill presses, belt sander and many
hand tools. We also offer a Dimension 3D Printer for student use. This machine can
be used for a fee. It prints with ABS Plastic and can be seen by visiting the
shop during normal hours. |
