# 1: Waterless Laundry System

General Description of Need: The Army requires a lightweight, portable, waterless laundry system to enable the cleaning of clothing and uniform items at austere field locations where regular water supplies are either unavailable or represent a force protection hazard. The device would support combat outposts of platoon- and company-size (20-120 soldiers). Desired characteristics include:


Desired Performance Goals:

 

·        Waterless wash (Threshold); Wash & dry (Objective)

·        If chemical, chemical must be non-flammable and recyclable/reusable

·        Able to wash 4 sets ACUs (T) 20 lbs mixed clothing (O) per load

·        Air transportable by CH47 (T) UH60 (O)

·        Man-portable: 12-man lift with lift points (T) 4-man lift (O)

·        Operate in 20 to 100 degree F conditions, at altitudes up to 12000 feet

·        Able to operate from military power generation systems

 

Note : Mentors will be available to provide guidance on technical performance requirements and on military performance specifications.
