The Soldier Design Competition Finals

The Finals of the 2005-2006 Soldier Design Competition will take place on March 1, when over a dozen teams from MIT ant the U.S. Military Academy will present their designs to a panel of judges from industry and academia.
Those teams are:

Under-armor personal cooling system using thermoelectrics and heat pipes to transport and exhaust heat passively through a heat sink worn on the belt.

Kinetic energy breaching tool using a compressed spring in a sledge-hammer device.

Altitude sensor for cargo airdrop that detects distance to the ground using pulsed radar and three-axis accelerometer.

Portable hand-powered ultraviolet water sterilization system.

Water purification system using vehicle engine heat to distill dirty water at reduced pressure.

Non-invasive personal hydration meter using a wristwatch and wireless network.
