2012 Student Prize Finalist
Uri Laserson is a PhD candidate in the Harvard-MIT Division of HealthSciences and Technology. He trained as a mathematician at MIT but has harbored interest in the life sciences since attending college at New York University, where he studied math and biology. He joined George Church's lab at Harvard Medical School and quickly found his passion for developinghigh-throughput technologies to analyze the immune system for medicine.
Laserson has also applied his training towards the diagnostics industry. At the end of 2007, he co-founded Good Start Genetics (GSG). The company uses high-throughput sequencing technologies to perform genetic carrier screening on couples before they have children. The company is planning to release its first test in 2012.
Laserson was born in Tel Aviv and raised in Miami before attending college in New York and graduate school in Boston. In 2012, he was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list.
