The town of Charlestown seems to have been configured along the lines of attachment to private property, which is seen in the abundance of fences. This strongly reveals the territorial character of the residents. A stranger is often not welcome here since people seem to feel uneasy about newcomers. While I was photographing the different kinds of fences that people have put up, I often had the feeling that I may be trapped inside one of these fences if I lingered too long or if I could not find my way out.
