The Board Workspace is a secure area, accessible only to
McGovern Institute board members.
If you have already downloaded your certificate, you may
enter
the Board Workspace directly.
If you have not yet downloaded the certificate, you will not be permitted
to access the Board Workspace. In order to download a certificate, please
go to http://web.mit.edu/is/cert/
(it will appear in a new browser window) and execute the following steps:
Please use Netscape, or the process is much more complicated.
Click on "Get MIT CA Certificate." A pop-up window will appear.
Read the text and click "next" three times, then check off the
three boxes labelled "Accept this Certificate Authority for Certifying..."
You have a choice of whether or not you are alerted when sending or receiving
secure information from a certified site; check the box if you would like
to see a warning each time. Finally, you need to give a name to the site
certificate; something that will help you remember it later. The name
"MIT" is sufficient, since this particular certificate is pertinent
to the entire MIT website rather than just the McGovern Institute.
Click on "Get MIT Personal Certificate." This certificate identifies
you specifically, allowing you to access the McGovern Institute website's
protected areas. Users possessing only the CA Certificate are not allowed
access. In the "Kerberos name" field, enter your MIT email address
username. If your email address is johnsmith@mit.edu, you would enter
"johnsmith" into the field (minus quotes). Likewise, in the
"Kerberos password" field, enter the password that you use to
access your MIT email account. Click on "Submit." Read the instructions
on the resulting page, and click "Next." A pop-up window will
appear, wherein you should click "OK." In the password window,
you can choose whether or not to protect your certificates with a password.
Continue to follow the instructions.
Note: MacOS users are only able to access the Board Workspace area while
using Netscape.
