Show some class and use these sites during their "off-peak" hours. I've done a little notation work on these, but any other clues or tips will be included in the next posting if they're sent to me. I'd like to hear of NEW sites that aren't on this list. UPDATED July 4, 1991 Anymore "specialized" sites out there? I've heard of a couple who have good collections of Nagel and Escher, but haven't pinpointed them. .............................................................................. I get most (90%+) of my information from you folks, so keep it coming in! I need sources for mac, sun, (anything but MSDOS actually) .gif and .gl viewers so if you know where they are, give me site, path and file name, please, or post and we can "discuss" their relative merits :-). ............................................................................. Don't bother asking me to list hardcore sites, I'm not stoned OR stupid! (Yes, I know some sites have been the unwilling host to a load of X-rated stuff, but it's stupid and could get your account killed, so go "hunting" with caution and more than a little trepidation.) ................................................................................ Todd V Jonker Subject: GIFs on the Mac Date: 28 Jun 91 21:40:27 GMT Reply-To: tjonker@rice.edu GIF files are machine-independent, and should need no translation. To view them on a Macintosh, you need to transfer in binary mode, because GIF is not a textual encoding like BinHex or uuencode. Once you have them on your Mac, use a GIF viewer to look at the picture or convert it into a different format like PICT or EPS. There are many GIF viewer programs available; my favorite is GIFconverter, which I think is available for anonymous ftp from the info-mac archive at sumex-aim.stanford.edu (IP 36.44.0.6) I also advise staying away from the ever-present GIFfer program, which is rather poorly designed and has caused me no end of trouble. Good luck! --Todd ............................................................................... In my next release of xviewgl, coming out this week, I have included the program ppmtopic.c, which will convert ppm files to .pic files. Used in conjunction with giftoppm, it should do what you want. In order to build ppmtopic.c, you will need the PBMPLUS libraries. Don't ask me how to get them. There is a regular post to alt.graphics.pixutils which will tell you how to acquire PBMPLUS. - Brad ............................................................................... -- ############################################################################# Larry W.
