Basic Function and Responsibility
Reporting directly to the Assistant Dean for Student Activities
provides administrative and project management support for office-wide
initiatives, including issue identification and resolution,
program planning, communications and outreach, and program advising.
Fosters communications and collaboration between students, the
staff of Student Life Programs, and other relevant programs
and operations at MIT. Primarily responsible for project-based
assignments.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
• With SAO/SLP leadership, identifies issues and potential
resolutions.
• Partners with other staff members to proactively resolve
concerns that may arise around program planning and risk management.
• Examines the event registration process and other event-related
policies and makes recommendations for improved efficiency and
clarity.
• Reviews student organization funding processes and advises
student government boards accordingly.
• Works with other staff members in SLP on program coordination
and curriculum development for student leadership development
programming to support student leaders on campus.
• Encourages the growth and development of student organizations
and helps maintain an environment that maximizes the personal
growth potential of students and student leaders.
• Together with other staff, may help develop and implement
programs to address issues of diversity on MIT’s campus
and to specifically support students of color and their organizations.
• Responsible for coordinating, producing, and designing
specific promotional materials and publications for Student
Activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean
for Student Activities.
Supervision Received
Supervision is received from the Assistant Dean for Student
Activities.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree
in Student Personnel Administration/Higher Education and/or
Counseling preferred.
• MIT experience a plus.
• Proven ability to manage projects and deliver results.
Ability to think critically, analyze the issues, use creativity,
and develop logical, practical solutions.
• Ability to take initiative in a fast-paced, multi-task
environment.
• Proven ability to work effectively with student leaders
and professional staff, raise issues, and facilitate decisions.
• Experience and skills in conflict resolution, leadership
training, and collaboration.
• A demonstrated commitment to and appreciation for issues
of diversity and community.
• Must possess excellent oral and written communication
skills.
• Knowledge of computer programs and desktop publishing
required, including PageMaker; HTML/WEB design preferred. |
