Jobs Project Manager
Basic Function and Responsibility
Reporting directly to the Department Head/Associate Dean provides
administrative and project management support on department-wide
initiatives, including program planning, issue identification
and resolution, communications and outreach, coordination of
projects and initiatives, and implementation and evaluation
of initiatives. Works collaboratively with all areas of SLP
to ensure accomplishment of goals and smooth functioning of
departmental services and functions.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
• Member of the SLP leadership team. Work with SLP leadership
to establish priorities, direction, coordination, implementation,
and management of SLP initiatives as assigned by the Department
Head/Associate Dean.
• Provide project management support for special projects
developed by SLP leadership, including defining timelines, parameters
and success measures for assigned projects and delivering timely
results.
• Partner with SLP leadership to proactively resolve
issues that may arise with students, staff and other stakeholders,
identifying key issues and potential resolutions.
• Support and encourage assessment of initiatives and
programs and lead the data review of information collected from
the 2003-04 surveys (including the EBI Survey).
• Identify needs and provide opportunities for project
and/or program success; develop and leverage connections with
stakeholders to support team strategic thinking and collaborations.
• Coordinate implementation of the revised support staff
plan for SLP and provide for a review of the model at the end
of Fall Term 2004.
• Develop and support ways to enhance the SLP office
workflow, including evaluating and enhancing administrative
processes.
• Support initiatives related to the first year experience,
risk management, campus preview weekend, and new student orientation.
• Plan for transition support in key SLP areas, such
as residential life programs, to enable a smooth transfer of
leadership and to maintain ongoing support and service to students,
housemasters, and other stakeholders.
• Identify and support alignment initiatives with student
groups and other MIT offices with special emphasis on supporting
the needs of the areas within SLP.
Supervision Received
Supervision is received from the Department Head/Associate Dean.
Supervision Exercised
May supervise temporary staff and student workers, as appropriate.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree
in Student Personnel Administration/Higher Education and/or
Counseling preferred.
• Proven ability to manage projects and deliver results.
Ability to think critically, analyze the issues, use creativity,
develop plans, and implement strategies.
• Proven ability to work effectively with student leaders
and professional staff, in a higher education environment and
culture.
• Proven ability to work effectively in a cross-functional,
fast-paced, environment.
• Must possess excellent written and oral communications
skills and effective interpersonal skills.
• Extremely strong organizational skills. Must have proven
record of delivering quality results in a timely manner.
• Demonstrated record of initiative, leadership, personal
and professional growth, and appreciation and commitment to
issues of diversity and community.
