Service Learning Coordinator for MIT's Public Service Center

The MIT Public Service Center (PSC) is seeking to hire a motivated, organized individual with a strong interest in service learning to coordinate MIT’s Service Learning Program. Working closely with staff in related areas, the coordinator will provide planning, infrastructure development, documentation, and implementation for service learning initiatives and related programs. The service learning coordinator should be both self-motivated and highly collaborative in order to work on this complex and innovative program.

Responsibilities and projects will include:
• Developing and implementing a systematic approach for service learning support for faculty, students, and community partners
• Advising and developing information resources for key constituents
• Creating and maintaining supportive relationships with community organizations, faculty, and students to develop service learning projects, classes, motivation, and understanding
• Supporting all service learning classes, including overseeing the Public Service Design Seminars
• Managing service learning communications, including proposal writing, grant reports, presentations and publicity
• Overseeing service learning evaluation and program revision
• Participating fully as a member of the PSC team and an Edgerton Center collaborator
• Running the Service Learning Grants and Service UROP programs
• Supervising a MACC AmeriCorps*VISTA and student assistants

Necessary skills and experience:
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Excellent organizational skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Project and task management experience

Additional skills we’re looking for, but which aren’t required:
• Familiarity with best practices in service learning and service learning research
• Engineering, scientific, or technical background
• Familiarity with Mac OS and software like Quark Express, Adobe Software, FileMaker Pro, and Microsoft Office
• Service Learning and service experience
• Familiarity with MIT and local community organizations

This is a full-time, annually renewable position. The salary will depend in part on the applicant’s qualifications. The Service Learning Coordinator is supervised by the Director of the Public Service Center.
