Perspectives on the SRI industry: developments and challenges

Steve Lydenberg, CIO, Domini Investments

Steven D. Lydenberg is Chief Investment Officer of Domini Social Investments and Vice President of the Domini Funds. He has been active in social research since 1975. Mr. Lydenberg was a founder of KLD Research & Analytics, Inc., served as its research director from 1990 to 2001, and continues to serve on KLD's Domini 400 Social IndexSM Committee. From 1987 to 1989, he was an associate with Franklin Research and Development Corporation (now known as Trillium Asset Management). For 12 years he worked with the Council on Economic Priorities, ultimately as director of corporate accountability research. Mr. Lydenberg has authored numerous publications on issues of corporate social responsibility, including Rating America's Corporate Conscience (Addison-Wesley, 1986), and coauthored Investing for Good (Harper Collins, 1993) and The Social Investment Almanac (Henry Holt, 1992). He is the author of articles including "Trust Building and Trust Busting: Corporations, Government and Responsibilities" (Journal of Corporate Citizenship, Autumn 2003) and "Envisioning Socially Responsible Investing: A Model for 2006" (Journal of Corporate Citizenship, Autumn 2002). Mr. Lydenberg currently serves on advisory boards for CANICCOR and Social Accountability International, and has served as honorary chair of the board of directors of the Sustainable Investment Research International (SiRi) Group. He is a member of the Boston Security Analysts Society.

Timothy Smith, Senior VP and Director of Socially Responsible Investing, Walden Asset Management

Timothy Smith joined Walden in 2000 as senior vice president and director of socially responsive investing. Tim plays a leadership role in Walden's shareholder advocacy and client service initiatives. Tim served as Executive Director of the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) for 24 years. ICCR coordinates action for some 275 religious institution investors bringing social concerns to corporate attention. He serves on the boards of the Social Investment Forum and of Shared Interest, a South Africa Development Fund. Tim has a Masters in Divinity from Union Theological Seminary and a BA from University of Toronto.

Graham Sinclair, Product Manager Research, KLD Research & Analytics

Graham Sinclair manages KLD's research products. Before joining KLD, Graham led a consulting engagement, focused on innovations in philanthropy and performance measurement, for the John Templeton Foundation. His deliverables included a White Paper on entrepreneurial philanthropy and a web-based calculator developed for thought leadership impact. Through the 1990's Graham worked in pensions consulting and investment management in his native South Africa, culminating as head of strategic marketing for Nasdaq-listed SEI Investments (SEIC), the world's largest multi-manager. In the USA, he has acted as consultant for SRIWorldGroup, Inc. on their OneReport CSR reporting platform and as Project Manager for the Arnone-Lerer SRI Portfolio at Villanova University, where he guided the design and implementation of the Investment Policy and qualitative investment analysis. He co-authored "Non-governmental Organizations, Shareholder Activism, and Socially Responsible Investments: Ethical, Strategic, and Governance Implications" in the Journal of Business Ethics, June 2004, vol. 52, no. 1, pp. 125-139(15).

Patricia Roach Senior Vice President, US Trust Co, NA

Trish is a Senior Vice President at U. S. Trust. She is currently a Portfolio Manager in the Private Asset Management group, providing investment management services for individual accounts, employee benefit plans, and endowment funds. Trish has been a Portfolio Manager and Investment Advisor since 1969. Trish was part of the firm's predecessor State Street Global Advisors for 27 years. While at State Street, Trish sat on several committees, the Trust Investment Committee, Stock Review, and was a past Chairman of the Investment Strategy Committee. She was also awarded State Street's coveted Chairman's Award. Trish was an Investment Officer at The Boston Company and a Bank Examiner for the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.

Trish is a graduate of Tufts University. She is a member of the Boston Security Analysts Society. She has a Certificate of Financial Planning from Boston University. Trish is also a Director of the Essex County Ecology Center, the Wingaersheek Yacht Club, and past Chair of the Essex Finance Committee

Jeff MacDonagh Assistant Portfolio Manager, Loring, Walcott & Coolidge

Jeff MacDonagh, CFA is an Assistant Portfolio Manager for Amy Domini and Lindsey Parker's private client business at Loring, Wolcott & Coolidge Fiduciary Advisors. His responsibilities include portfolio management, social investment screening, proxy voting, and community development investments. Jeff joined Amy and Lindsey's business in 2003 after three years of social investment research experience at KLD in Boston. Prior to his investment career, Jeff invented a an energy efficient lighting technology, and managed a small bakery in St. Paul, Minnesota. Jeff hold's a B.S. in mathematics, physics, and philosophy from University of Wisconsin - Madison, an M.S. in Technology Policy from MIT.
