Corporate Social Responsibility at Consumer Facing Brands

Dr. Natalie Taylor, Associate Professor in the Arthur M. Blank Center for Entrepreneurship at Babson College

Dr. Natalie Taylor is an associate professor in the Arthur M. Blank Center for Entrepreneurship at Babson College where she has created and teaches course in social entrepreneurship, including Social Enterprise Management, Entrepreneurial Nonprofits and Entrepreneurship, Society and the Environment. She was also a member of the team that designed and launched Babson's highly regarded MBA program which is distinctive for its progressive, integrative curricular approach.

Dr. Taylor has 12 years of industry experience, including two startups, and has served as a management consultant to Pepperidge Farms, Weyerhaeuser, Inc., and Citibank, among others. She has been a guest speaker on the topics of social entrepreneurship and corporate entrepreneurship at a variety of organizations including the Commercial Development Association and the Church of the Nazarene.

Her publications include "The CEO, Venture Capitalists and the Board," Journal of Business Venturing (with Rosenstein, Bruno & Bygrave), and "Toward a Not-for-Profit Analytical Framework," Frontiers of Entrepreneurship Research, (with Bygrave, D'Heilly & McMullen) as well as a number of cases in the field of entrepreneurship. The focus of her current research is on enhancing the viability, sustainability and impact of mission driven organizations, both non profit and for profit. She currently serves on several Boston area boards.

Michael Dupee, Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters

Michael Dupee serves as the Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility for Green Mountain Coffee Roasters. In his role, Mike leads the company's overall Corporate Social Responsibility efforts, including providing strategic direction and focus for the company's social responsibility programs; managing the company's allocation of 5% pre-tax earnings into socially responsible projects; leading the development and publication of GMCR first Corporate Social Responsibility Report; generating increased understanding of and recognition for the company's SR activities, both internally and externally; developing next-generation commercial partnership opportunities with social responsibility as a key competitive differentiator; and broadening the reach and resources of the GMCR Foundation. Prior to joining Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Mike was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs & Co. in New York, NY, making and managing opportunistic investments in distressed financial assets from 2000 to 2004. Mike earned his Juris Doctor and Master in Business Administration degrees at Georgetown University.

Terry Kellogg, Executive Director, One Percent for the Planet

Terry has worked at the intersection of business and the environment for more than ten years. He began his career in the non-profit sector, working on forestry issues for the Vermont Natural Resources Council and mining issues for the Greater Yellowstone Coalition. Realizing the opportunity to drive positive environmental change from the business side, Terry joined a renewable energy retailer called Green Mountain Energy. At Green Mountain Terry worked on a variety of projects including new market development and financing.

In 2000, Terry joined the Timberland Company as their first staff person dedicated to minimizing the company's environmental footprint and supporting new markets for sustainable products. Under Terry's leadership, Timberland reduced its carbon footprint by nearly ten percent through improved efficiency and the use of renewable energy; adopted widespread use of water based adhesives; and launched programs in green building and organic cotton. The company also pioneered the use of environmental assessment tools and performance management systems. Terry left his job as Director of Environmental Stewardship at Timberland in March, 2005 to join One Percent for the Planet.

Terry has a BA in Economics from Middlebury College and an MBA and a Master of Environmental Management (MEM) from Yale University. He lives with his wife and two kids just a stone's throw from One Percent's new offices in Newburyport, Massachusetts.

Susan Bishop, Tiller LLC

At Tiller, Susan brings to bear over 13 years of diverse media relations, corporate communications and editorial experience to assist clients in developing research-based advocacy campaigns. Susan works with clients on all aspects of developing their advocacy platforms, from devising the initial idea to managing the individual project components through to completion. Along the way, she'll tackle varied tasks such as writing public opinion polls and press releases, developing robust press kits, recommending strategic marketing content, training spokespeople and placing stories in major media outlets.

Prior to joining Tiller in May 2004, Susan was vice president of public relations at U.S. Trust in Manhattan, where she oversaw all national and regional PR for the $100 billion wealth management firm. In addition, she managed development, writing and production of the firm's annual review as well as its highly regarded annual Survey of Affluent Americans.

Earlier, Susan spent three years as corporate communications manager at Textron Inc., an $11 billion conglomerate in Providence, Rhode Island. At Textron, she developed and coordinated publicity and communications programs with the company's 40-plus business units around the world and served as the primary corporate spokesperson, working closely with senior management.

Before joining Textron, Susan served for five years as director of public relations at John Hancock Funds in Boston. She began her career in PR and as an editor for IBC/Donoghue, the publisher of MoneyLetter and Money Fund Report, and then became a reporter for Mutual Fund Market News.

Susan holds a B.S. in Mass Communications/Public Relations from Boston University.
