Welcome to the UROP Mentor E-Newsletter!

***** ______

Welcome to the first edition of the UROP Mentor, a bi-monthly newsletter designed for MIT faculty and others who regularly mentor UROP researchers.

This newsletter is produced thanks to the generous support of the Everett Moore Baker Memorial Foundation who shares our vision of facilitating meaningful faculty-student interactions that enrich life at the Institute.

We see this publication as a means of creating dialogue and a sense of community among the many men and women at MIT who invest so much time, effort, and care in guiding UROP students through all stages of research, across all disciplines.

We hope to raise issues regarding best practices in research mentorship, and to highlight some of the many successful UROP collaborations happening across campus, from both mentor and student viewpoints. We also intend to use this newsletter to keep you informed on research news, opportunities, policies, and deadlines that affect UROP researchers and mentors.

In this issue, we cover the IAP Research Mentor Program (IRMP), an Institute program that provides inexperienced undergraduate researchers an introduction to the research environment through a peer mentor. We also hear from Folkers Rojas, an MIT junior who has made it a point to use UROP as a way to explore disciplines and research outside his major.

This is the inaugural issue of a recurring publication that has been created specifically for faculty and research staff who supervise undergraduate researchers. We hope you will consider suggesting topics or submitting an article you would like to share widely within our research enterprise.

We hope you enjoy this initial issue of the UROP Mentor.

Sincerely yours,
