Welcome to the third edition of the UROP Mentor, our
online newsletter aimed at MIT faculty, reseachers, graduate
students, and others who mentor undergraduate researchers.
This month, we speak with Chensi Ouyang (MIT '08) and John
Casey (Louisiana State University '08) about their summer
2007 experiences as members of MIT's first Amgen-UROP
Scholars Program. Supported by a grant from the Amgen
Foundation, this new initiative supports faculty-mentored
research in the sciences and biotechnology areas.
We also talk with Philip Ilten, '08, a physics UROP student
whose research has taken him from the laboratory of MIT
professor Christoph Paus to CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.
Philip discusses his research, the importance of faculty
mentorship, and how overseas research experiences enhance
an MIT education.
We hope you enjoy this latest issue of the UROP Mentor,
and welcome your feedback.
