UROP Coordinators

Every department and laboratory has a faculty member assigned to be that area's UROP liaison. Check the list of UROP Coordinators to determine the Coordinator for your area of interest.

The UROP Coordinator:

  • Interprets the department's requirements, ensures academic rigor in projects undertaken by faculty and student collaborators, and clarifies policies and procedures for departmental review.

  • Reviews proposals before UROP staff sees them, examines project descriptions and financial requests, and may speak for or against UROP awarding funds in particular cases.

  • Suggests the kinds of skills and experience UROP students need to acquire before they attempt research in the department.

  • Maintains copies of UROP proposals and coversheets, compiles end-of-term UROP grades for submission to the Registrar, and oversees other administrative functions associated with student participation.

  • Recommends opportunities for students to meet with faculty and with other students; encourages students to participate in symposia, discuss research interests, or hear lectures by potential faculty supervisors.

  • Provides help if a student has a special problem (e.g., s/he cannot find a faculty supervisor in the chosen area of interest, needs access to equipment, or needs financial resources to attend a conference).
