FRESHMAN CREDIT LIMIT
All MIT freshmen are subject to a credit limit in their first
year; they may register for no more than 54 units in the fall
term and no more than 57 units in the spring. There are only two
exceptions to the credit limit in the fall: Freshmen may exceed
the limit
- by up to 6 units for SEM.XL1 (Seminar XL) or
- by 3 units for 12.000 (Mission 2006).
There are no exceptions to the freshman credit limit in the spring.
All MIT undergraduates are subject to a 12
unit credit limit during IAP.
Freshman
grade reporting (P/NR in the fall and A/B/C/NR in the spring)
and the freshman credit limit are designed to ease the transition
to MIT. Students are limited to a reasonable number of challenging
subjects while they adapt to the rigors of the MIT curriculum.
The CAP very rarely allows any exceptions to the freshman credit
limit.

limit, visit Exceeding a Credit Limit.
