Using the movable Athena workstation

What is it?

The movable Athena workstation is an SGI Indy that comes with its own projection system (an LCD flat panel display and overhead projector).

Where can it be used?

It can be used in any classroom that has an MITnet drop and a screen suitable for projection.

How can I reserve it?

Send email to hotline@mit.edu or call x3-1410, at least one week in advance.

Are there any limitations on its use?

  1. At this time we are restricting this service to use in regularly scheduled MIT subjects only, due to its labor-intensive nature.
  2. This is an Athena workstation and can access only software that is available on Athena. Custom installation of non-Athena software on this workstation is not permitted.
  3. If your software works only on a Sun workstation, then you will need to remotely log on to one of the Sun Athena workstations in N42. The Faculty Liaisons will be able to help you with this.

Responsibility of the instructor

Our cluster support staff will deliver and set up the workstation and will return at the end of the requested time period to retrieve it. The instructor of the class is responsible for seeing to it that someone remains with the equipment until it is picked up by our staff.
